Assessment of Learning Environments of Pre-Service Teachers In Terms of Constructivist Approach (An Education Faculty Sample)
Abstract :
In line with candidate teachers’ opinions and by taking characteristics of constructivist learning into account the general objective of this research is to assess the environments where they receive education. In realization of the research survey method has been benefited from. Universe of the research has been constituted by candidate teachers who have been receiving education in spring semester of 2011-2012 academic year at the Education Faculty of a university in the Western Anatolia region of Turkey. In the research “simple random sampling method” has been selected as sampling method and the research has been carried out with 291 teacher candidates. Data of the research have been obtained by “Constructivist Learning Environment Assessment Scale” which was developed by Arkun and Askar (2010). Data is analyzed through frequency, percentage, mean average, standard deviation, independent samples t-test and one-way ANOVA analysis. As a result, in line with candidate teachers’ opinions it has been determined that learning environments where they receive education have important deficiencies at the point of carrying or having the characteristics of constructivist learning environment. Based on obtained results, several suggestions are made.
