Abstract :
The aim of the current study was to investigate the first comprehensive research carried out by Hilmi Ziya Ulken in the field of sociology at higher education and secondary education and published in 1956 in Turkey. Parallel with its emergence in the West, sociology which was introduced in the latest period of the Ottoman Empire could hardly find its place in higher education and secondary education, such that while it was not studied in most of the European countries, it was included in the secondary education curriculum in 1924 in Turkey. In his detailed study titled “Sociology Teaching and Researches in the World and in Turkey”, Ulken investigated the developmental process of sociology in various countries of the world. The aspect that makes this study meaningful is that it was the first study carried out in the country in the field of sociology teaching. There were some other studies carried out into the development of sociology itself before that study in Turkey, however, none of these studies did not examine the content, method, problems etc. of sociology teaching. In his study, Ulken investigated the introduction of sociology in Turkey, the impact of French, German, British and American sociology echoles on Turkish sociology, the insufficiency of theoretical and practical sociological researches and sociology teaching at higher and secondary education in detail.
