The Determination of the Reading Levels of the First Year Students in Vocational Schools at Bülent Ecevit University Sample
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to determine the reading levels of the first year vocational school students and in accordance with their preferences of secondary school study-field selection and their genders. The sample of this study is determined via “simple random sampling” and it consists of 496 students who are trained in the vocational schools of Bülent Ecevit University in 2011-2012 academic year. Two special texts used by Güneş and right along with these two texts, questions about them are used as data collection tools. The scales developed by Güneş are used in the data analysis and evaluation of this study. According to the secondary school field selections, it is determined that the majority of the science students center around the first level equally-weighted and social sciences students center around the third level. It is founded that the reading levels of female students are higher than male students. Therefore, in this study, several suggestions offered in order to enhance the reading levels of the vocational school students.
