The Influence of Students’ Perceptions toward Quality of School Life on Their School Engagement

The present study investigates the relationship between students’ perceptions towards the quality of school life and their school engagement. The population of the study consisted of 5814 students from ten schools which are located in central districts of the province of Çankırı in academic year of 2011-2012. However, for it was impossible to reach the population, the study was conducted on the sample which was composed of 410 students. Participants filled in the ‘Scale for School Engagement’ and ‘Scale for Quality of School Life’. Data were analyzed with arithmetical mean, standard deviation, percentage, frequency, correlation and regression techniques. At the end, it was seen that participants’ opinions on school engagement and the quality of school life was in medium level. In addition, it was understood that there was a significant relationship between school engagement and the quality of school life. It was also found that the quality of school life was a significant predictor of school engagement. Based on these findings it was concluded that the quality of school life is a vitally important factor for the students to engage their schools.
