Determining Biology Student Teachers’ Cognitive Structure on the Concept of “Enzyme”
Abstract :
The current study aims to determine biology student teachers’ cognitive structure on the concept of enzymes through revealing their conceptual structure. Qualitative research method was applied in this study. The data were collected from 40 biology student teachers. The free word-association test and the drawing-writing technique were used as data collection instruments. The data collected were subject to content analysis. The data collected through the study were divided into 7 categories (the structural properties of the enzyme, the definition and properties of the enzyme, the necessity of the enzyme, the working model of the enzyme, factors affecting operation of the enzyme, the tasks of enzyme and enzyme variants).Moreover, it was determined that they had some alternative concepts about enzyme.
