Abstract :
This study aims to determine the perceived values of the children who are separated from their parents who emigrated from Aksaray city center or from its villages for various reasons. The sample of this study included 122 middle school students (aged between11-15) enrolled in seven different public middle schools. In this study, mixed design research methodology was used to analyze quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data were gathered by using the “Portrait Values Scale” (PVS) developed by Schwartz and his colleagues (2001), and qualitative data were gathered by having students write down their ideas as a response to an open ended question. While the quantitative data were assessed with the Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS 18.0) software, the qualitative data were classified to content analysis according to Schwartz’ value classification. The findings of this study showed that being religious, being healthy, doing a favor, being respectful to elders, being tidy, and preserving the nature were among the most frequent perceived values.
