Evaluation of High School Students’ Reasons of Truancy
Abstract :
The aim of this study is to determine and evaluate causes of truancy of students who attend general high schools, and vocational and technical high schools in Ankara. Qualitative research technique was used to collect, analyze and interpret data and technically content analysis was used in this research. A semi-structured interview schedule prepared in accordance with the qualitative research approach is used as a data collection tool. Causes of truancy were determined as school management, teachers, parents, personal and friends according to results. Opinions of general high-schoolers are different from opinions of vocational-technical high- schoolers although these five causes are fundamental factors. Teacher is the most important factor for truancy and parents is the weakest factor for truancy.
