The Attitudes of Pre-service History Teachers Towards Creative Drama
Abstract :
In this study, it was aimed to determine the attitudes of pre-service history teachers towards creative drama. The sample of the study consist of 20 pre-service history teachers (female and male) who were at the third year of their undergraduate degree of History Teaching in Faculty of Education at Gazi University, Ankara. In this study, the sample group took the elective “Creative Drama in History Teaching” course during 14 weeks in the 2013-2014 teaching session. During this time, the pre-service history teachers experienced the basic concepts of creative drama, the process of creative drama and the techniques of it in general. The creative drama attitude scale (CDAS) by Okvuran was applied as a pre-test and post-test to pre-service history teachers to determine their attitudes towards creative drama. SPSS15 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) program was used to analyze the quantitative data. The results showed that the difference between pre-test scores and post-test scores of creative drama attitude scale was statistically significant. This positive change in the attitude of pre-service teachers indicates that the pre-service teachers will give place to this method by continuing this positive attitude in their lessons in the future. This is also considered as a positive development in terms of history teaching. According to the results of the YDTÖ pretest, there are no statistically significant differences for the gender variable, but the results of posttest are shown that there are statistically significant differences in favor of men. Some suggestions are also presented regarding the results of this study in order to shed light on the future research.
