Abstract :
The approach of active citizenship addresses individuals’ public, social and individual participations in the context of democratic values. In this study, it is aimed to perform empirical testing of social and individual participation factors that were constructed theoretically. With survey design, this study applied to the pre-service teachers in School of Education, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University. Social Participation Level Scale, Individual Participation Level Scale, Factors Affect Social Participation Scale, Factors Affect Individual Participation Scale and Media Literacy Questionnaire were used as data collection tools. Descriptive statistics and ANOVA test were performed for data analysis. According to results, social participation is affected by readiness of cognitive and affective levels, social competence, personal opportunities, effective organizing factors, while individual participation is affected by readiness of cognitive and affective levels, social competence, personal opportunities, benefit and sense of belonging factors. It was found out that in social participation, environment and benefit factors are not efficient, while in individual participation only environment factor is not efficient.
