Abstract
In this study, we tried to determined difficulties encountered in the process of problem solving in math lessons 8. grades students. We used seven open-ended problems as a means of data collection. In every problem, we asked sub questions for measuring Polya’s four steps in problem solving that ‘understanding the problem’, ‘make a plan’ ‘carry out a plan’ and ‘look back’. According to this sub questions; we trying to identify difficulties their students problem solving which of this steps. Descriptive analysis of the qualitative research methods were used to analyze the data. According to results, we identified the students that cannot resolve the problems forced to ‘make a plan’ and ‘carry out a plan’steps in the routine problems, and they forced to ‘understanding the problem’ step in the non-routine problems..
