Abstract :
The aim of this study was to determine whether there exists a relationship between pre-service science teachers’ attitudes towards chemistry lesson and their academic success. The study also aimed to investigate the effect of this relationship in means of gender and educational background of the parents of these pre-service science teachers. Using the relational scanning model, a total of 96 first grade pre-service science teachers, which were the registered students of Primary Science Education Department of the Education Faculty in Gazi University in the spring term of 2013-1014 academic year, participated this study. The Attitude and Attention Scale toward Chemistry Lesson (AASC) was used as a data collection tool. The gathered data were analyzed by using SPSS-11.5 programme with conduction of frequency (f), mean (M) and Pearson correlation coefficient. Analysis of this data revealed that there were differences between attitudes and academic success of pre-service science teachers according to gender and educational background of their parents. The study also showed that there was a positive and moderate relationship between the attitudes of pre-service science teachers towards chemistry lesson and their academic success.
