The Effects of Space Colours in Space Perception of Mentally Retarded Children
Abstract :
To investigate colour effects on space perception of mildly mentally retarded children, a descriptive study which will put forward their awareness to the available spaces at their special education and rehabilitation center was considered. A semi-structured interview form was prepared to be applied in the field and an interview was planned in company with special education specialist. Data were recorded through note taking and audio recording. Questions which were prepared for perception of inner and outer spaces of the center were applied to 7 girls and 9 boys of 16 children who are attending to the center. Attention was given not to have colour blindness. By investigating similar or different cases of colour usage in the answers of space perception, it was found out that colour comes forward with its selective perception and directs space perception by making it easier. The importance of colour in space perception of a child was determined.
