Abstract :
This study aims to evaluate the preschool children’s classroom adaptation in terms of the variables age and gender of the children, education level and professional seniority of the teachers using Teacher Observation of Classroom Adaptation–Checklist developed by Koth, Bradshaw and Leaf (2009), adapted Turkish by Aydos, Uysal and Akman (2015). Quantitative research method was used. Non-parametric Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to evaluate classroom adaptation level of children in terms of age and gender of the children, and education level and professional seniority of the teachers. Data was collected from the private and state preschools (n=122). Findings of the research show that there is no difference between girls and boys related to gender variable in subscales of Teacher Observation of Classroom Adaptation–Checklist especially in term of prosocial behaviours. There is a difference found in Concentration Problems and Behavioural Problems in favor of the girls. When the children’s age variable examined, there is no significant difference in any subscales. When teachers’ graduation and professional experience were examined in subscales of Teacher Observation of Classroom Adaptation–Checklist; there is a significant difference in favor of teacher who has master’s degree graduation level in Prosocial Behaviours. Also, analysis results of teachers’ professional experience; there is a difference in Concentration Problems, Behavioural Problems and Prosocial Behaviour in favor of teachers who have 10-15 professional experience.
