An Examination of Teachers Life Satisfaction and Marriage Satisfaction According to the Leadership Styles of School Principals
Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to examine teachers’ marital satisfaction and life satisfaction according to the school principals’ leadership styles, gender, age, love for the teaching profession, and the school principal. The study sample consisted of 305 married teachers. “The Leadership Styles Scale”, “Satisfaction with Life Scale” and “Marital Satisfaction Scale” were employed to collect the data. The collected data were analyzed by using MANOVA,Kruskal- Wallis H Test, Mann-Whitney U Testand t-test. The study results revealed high marital satisfaction levels for the teachers who perceive their school principals to adopt the transactional leadership style. On the other hand, the teachers who perceive their school principals to adopt the transformational leadership style were found to have high life satisfaction levels, as well. Gender was not found to have any significant effect on the teachers’ life satisfaction and marital satisfaction levels. The older the teachers are, the lower their life and marital satisfaction levels were. Furthermore, the study also demonstrated that the teachers who love the teaching profession had significantly higher levels of life satisfaction and marital satisfaction. Teachers’ liking for their school principals did not have any significant impact on their life satisfaction although it was found to have significant effect on their marital satisfaction levels.
