The Effect of Edutainment Applications upon Academic Achievement: A Meta-Analytic Study
Abstract :
This study aimed to determine the effect of edutainment applications upon academic achievement. Collected from national and international literature between the years of 2004-2014, six articles and thirty theses which applied pretest-posttest control group model were chosen for the study. Meta- analysis was preferred as study method and both fixed and random effects model (FEM/REM) were made use of. When the studies about games including academic achievement scores were analyzed depending on FEM, the effect size value (ES=0.685) was found to be at medium range according to Cohen’s (1992) classification. There was significant difference among intergroup effect size in terms of edutainment types (Z=7.136; p=0.011). The study results showed that edutainment applications have positive effect on academic achievement.
