Abstract :
The purpose of this study to investigate distance learners’ attitude towards mobile internet usage for instructional activities based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). For this purpose, survey research method was used to identify acceptance level and relations of acceptance with mobile experiences and demographics. The convenience sampling method was used. The sample consists of 74 from 740 graduate students attending four non-thesis online master’s programs at Atatürk University in 2015-2016 autumn semester. The programs are criminal justice, business, marketing and management of health institutions. The instrument used for data collection includes demographic questions and a technology acceptance questionnaire with 20 five-point Likert type items in 5 factors. The questionnaire had been developed before to measure technology acceptance of mobile internet usage based on TAM. In order to analyze the data, frequency, percentage, mean values and ANOVA, Kruskall-Wallis H and Mann-Whitney U tests were used. According to findings, the mobile internet usage attitudes of distance learners were found positive. It was also derived from the findings that even small amount of mobile usage makes difference with non-users in acceptance level. Distance education providers should consider the students’ readiness situations of technology acceptance for mobile activities and mobile supports.
