Abstract :

Located in Turkey s southeastern tip, her name being remembered when the subject of news is on security or garbage-fed people, Hakkâri, being at the bottom in terms of socio-economic indicators, can be appropriately qualified as other. The city has been abstracted from the country‟s other areas because of spatial problems caused by lack of transportation facilities as well as of historical political reasons arising from socio-economic structure. Being already poor in 1990s, the city‟s problems increased since people have been forced to migrate to city. With social problems experienced in the southeast of the country and in the key areas where forced migration and poverty issues are important, the city of Hakkâri is one of the most typical settlements that should be investigated on migration and poverty issues. In this context, we have conducted extensive observations and interviews in neighborhoods that have got the most migration, added to these were that detailed survey for 160 households was made and frequencies and cross-analysis for survey questions were conducted. Conducted analysis shows that migration after 1990s is the result of obligatory reasons. It is also identified that already poor in the rural areas with limited agricultural base, people moving to city has entered into absolute poverty. Briefly stated, the aim of this study is to determine whether there exist the relationship between the fact of migration and poverty and to put urban poverty‟s social, economic and spatial dimensions in place.
