Foundation of the Caliphate under the Shadow of the Mamluk Sultans
Abstract :
After been seized Baghdad and eliminated the Abbasid Caliphate by Ilkhans in 1258, the authority of the caliphate that has a serious importance for Turk-Islām World, wouldn‟t appear in the historical secene for three years. The victory that the Mamluks gained over the Mongols, cheered up all the Muslims and the caliphate that re-established by Sultan Baibars in Cairo in 1261 had provided Mamluks to rise their prestiges over the Islāmic World. But the Caliphate, established in Cairo, differed from the Baghdad Caliphate. The Caliphs, whom were under the shadows of the sultans and salaried at a small amount, had no political force and just a few exceptions, they would keep their situation till the end of the Mamluks in 1517.
