Title Of Article :
Preservice Primary School Teacher’s Assessment of Their Primary School Teacher’s Efficacy
Abstract :
Among our teachers, who are the cornerstone of education, class teachers have a great influence on us as we have spent the longest period of our education with them and learned basic knowledge and skills from them. Perhaps we cannot assess their value objectively when we are children, but we can assess their effectiveness in teaching-learning process years later. The study aims to examine prospective class teachers’ assessment of their own class teachers’ competence in teaching-learning process in the classroom atmosphere in the first five years of their primary school education in terms of gender, their class teacher’s gender, grade and the place where they completed the first five years of primary education. In this study, relational screening model was used .The study group is composed of 521 prospective teachers attending Primary School Education Department at Faculty of Education of Cumhuriyet University in 2011-2012 education year. In this study, we used 33-item teacher competencies scale. For the analysis of data obtained, prospective class teachers’ assessment of their own class teachers was interpreted with arithmetic means and standard deviation without considering variables. Kolmogorov-Smirnov (K-S) test was administrated to determine suitability of scores to normality. As p-values of all variables were found to be lower than α=.05 as a result of test, There was not found any significant difference in prospective class teachers’ assessment of class teachers’ competencies in terms of their own gender and their teachers’ gender. Significant difference was found between assessments of prospective teachers in terms of the place where they finished the first five years. Based on the results of the study, it is suggested that teacher competencies are to be functionalized, pre-service and in-service education are to be attached importance, and teachers are to be encouraged pursuing master education to improve themselves.
