Abstract :
While exercising their representative powers within the framework of their parliamentary functions and activities, members of the parliament in any democratic system shall express their opinions in the absence of threat of prosecution or punishment. The acts committed under the parliamentary immunity may give rise to the commission of malicious prosecution, criminal threatening, blackmail, attempting to influence a fair trial to pervert the course of justice, crime propaganda, incitement to commit a crime, or inciting public to hatred and enmity, all of which are subject to criminal sanction under the law. The study focuses among others solely on the crime of defamation, and the special features of parliamentary immunity regarding this specific crime
