Abstract
The expression idi o(o)qsuz mentioned on the east sides of the two oldest Turkic scripts Kültegin and Tonyukuk was interpreted by many and various researchers as “untidy, derelict, adrift” according to the meaning of the words idi and oq and the context. Also found in the Uighur translated texts, this expression’s meaning overlaps with the original Chinese ideograms’. In this article, a new function, meaning and transcription is proposed for the words idi, oq and oqsuz as well as the expression idi o(o)qsuz.
