Abstract :
In recent years, organizations have been affected by many factors such as the social, economic, politic and environmental ones, which are dynamic and subject to rapid change. In order to understand and make predictions about the future, it is necessary to learn from the past. For this reason, this article consists of an overview of the evolution of socio-technical systems from its original formulation in the early Tavistock mining studies to the present. The present study investigated how the sociotechnical system theory emerged and upon which foundations it was constructed. In this study particularly, how the socio-technical system theory reflected on education was examined; furthermore, it attempted to describe contributions and limitations that this theory brought in the field of educational administration. Finally, the implementation of the socio-technical system theory was discussed in relation to education and educational administration.
