Abstract :
When Alaed-Din Keykubat succeeded to the throne the Rum Seljuk Sultanate became the most powerful state of the Middle East. The state had reached the coasts of Mediterrenean and Black Seas. The Seljuks were signing treaties for the security of the coasts and providing security to foreign merchants. It was necessary for Alaed-Din Keykubat to occupy the castle of Kalanoros (Alaiyye) in order to reinforce the coastal security of the Mediterranean. And Kalanoros was conquered with the encouragement of Mübarezüd-Din Ertokuş, and Esedüd-Din Ayaz, who were among the most powerful Emirs of Alaeddin Keykubat’s reign. The Sultan loved this place so much that he renamed the city Alaiyye, meaning, the city of Alaeddin. He gave Kirvard, the former ruler of Kalanoros, Aksehir and a few villages in that region as a fief and he married one of Kirvard’s daughters. This daughter became a Muslim unlike Kirvard and his sons who remained Christians, and after the death of Sultan Giyased-Din Keyhusrev II they participated in the political events of the Seljuk state. It is known that Kirfard and his family left Aksehir and settled in Sille and Hatunsaray following the death of Sultan Alaed-Din Keykubat. The region might have been given to Kirfard, as the name of three villages called Girvat in the Hatunsaray and Sille areas derives from the name of the father-in-law of Sultan Alaed-Din Keykubat, Kyrvart. The primary subject of this paper is Kyr Fard and the region and also Hond Hatun, the daughter of Kyr Fard and wife of Sultan Alaed-Din, and her children.
