Abstract :
“New Historicism”, one of the concepts that developed after 1980, writes history through renewing it and bringing fictionality to the center. The social, cultural, political and literary atmosphere is taken into consideration, contrasting with the method of isolating texts from their cultural source and geography. In this sense, it is an approach which advances within the framework of writer-age-work, through defending the idea of empathizing between the historical event and term and, in this way aims to query historical documents and their claim to objectivity. Thus, in consequence, a history appears which is based upon history, but which is in essence a fictional interpretation. This, though its contradictions in the reader’s mind, is important in terms of the story’s framework and structure. The “New Historicist” structure of the method of study gives a place to prologues and is constructed on basic conflicts that cause cultural and social complexes, combining the historical phases from particulars to the mass without neglecting the historical atmosphere, geography and culture as a scene, and which can be read in Zülfü Livaneli’s Engereğin Gözündeki Kamaşma. In our study, from this perspective, the matter of concretizing techniques and the principles of the literal method of “New Historicism” in the writer’s story managed to be retained.
