Abstract :
The understanding of the city-state of Athens and its democratic regime is important to the festivals scattered throughout the year. Under the influence of critical attitude that the democratic atmosphere of the period was provided, the various comedies were shown in Great Dionysia and Lenaea. Aristophanes, one of the most famous comedian writers, displayed the political, social and intellectual realism of the period in a striking manner. “Women in Assembly”, the subject of this study, is a fantastic comedy that ironically deals with that the public life of degenerate Athens can be reorganized in the axis of the oikos. At the same time, the play can also be defined as kind of rebellion against existing masculine society of Athens by proposing a women dominant regime against demokratia as a male dominant regime. One of the main questions to be answered in the study is why Aristophanes has written out such a kind of comedia. In this study, the elements of the Athens democratic regime will be discussed through this comedy, in which the thoughts evoking Plato and Aristotle are also discussed.
