Abstract :
“The Battle of Gallipoli” lasted fourteen months between 3 November 1914 and 9 January 1916. This battle, which occurred in a narrow land, is one of the bloodiest battles of the history. In terms of its results, it influenced both Turkish and world history from military, political and economic aspects, as well as social and psychological dimensions. In the evaluations, in which the losses at the battle were documented as only statistic, subject of human life is ignored usually. However, it should not be forgotten that there is a fact of great pain and drama behind many lived heroic stories. Deaths can be recognized as a natural result of the war, in this sense, the war has three dimensions: Witnessing death, killing and the remaining graves. However, these dimensions affect the life of the people who witnessed the war and leaves deep scars in their life. In this paper these issues are evaluated according to the impression of Turkish soldiers who lived the war and it is tried to call attention to the humanitarian aspects of those which have been lived in Gallipoli. Thus, it is going to be understood better that the war is a disaster for humanity and Turkey s independence have costed what kind of sacrifice?
