Manisa Bagcilar Bank: Foundation and Organization Process (1917-1927)
Abstract :
Areas of economic activity in the last period of the Ottoman Empire were mostly in the hands of foreigners or non-Muslims. The National Economic Policy of Union and Progress Party, was use the Turks and Muslims more efficient in economic life. In accordance with this policy, along with the Local Banks many companies and cooperatives have also been established. Especially Western Anatolia is an important region where agricultural products were exported. Therefore some financial institutions such as Manisa Bagcilar Bank were formed by the initiative of the Unionists. Bank, founded in 1917 with the capital of 150.000 liras by 60 people, mostly focused on vinegrowers. However, the completion of organization process has been completed in 1927.
