Some Information about a Mournful Folk Song in the Occupation Days of the Alasehir Region
Abstract :
After the World War I, the phase of the organization of the local resistance had its own unique characteristics in the process of invasion of Turkey. In the days of organizing the national forces and local congresses in Western Anatolia, there have been a series of events resulting in the deaths of two young people named ‘Emir Ayşe and Galip Bey’ in Alasehir (Philadelphia) region. The folk song, which was written in a vulgar tongue to recount what happened to two lovers and to express the sadness of losing them, sheds some light on the other points that the archival documents were insufficient. In this paper, this tragic love story and the folk song of those days is evaluated in the light of other information obtained.
