A Jewish Member in the Ottoman Chamber of Deputy: Nesim Masliyah
Abstract :
Second Constitutional Era hosted significant breakthroughs due to the historical development of administration in Turkey. Parliament pluralism, forcing the boundaries of anarchy, came up in an era of freedom is at the top of this policy. People of different ethnic backgrounds and religion had the right to become a member of the Ottoman Chamber of Deputy and were closely involved with decisions in the state administration. Since the establishment of the Ottoman Empire, the Jews, sustaining their presence in Anatolia, were also represented in the Chamber of Deputy. In the last period of the Ottoman Empire, Nesim who was the Member of Parliament representing İzmir and Selonica is one of the leading characters both in The Union and Progress and the Jews Community. His main profession solicitorship, Nesim organised activities in the press and wrote articles in various newspapers. During the Republican period he sustained his profession as a lawyer and made a name for himself in the cases he took. In this paper, the biography of Nesim Masliyah, his point of view in politics and his activities in the parliament were evaluated.
