A research on the possibilities of increasing the amount of healthy shoot tips in in vitro grown artichoke
Abstract :
This study was conducted to decrease the losses due to infections and browning in in vitro grown artichoke shoot tips. It was possible to increase the ratio of healthy explants when an additional step of fungicide application was included to the sterilization procedure (p≤0.01). The addition of silver nitrate directly to the MS medium has also increased the ratio of healthy shoots (p≤0.01). According to these results, artichoke shoot tips planted in MS containing 100 mgl-1 silver nitrate after being treated with 6% Captan and %0.5 sodium hypochlorite (both for 10 minutes) gave the highest number (61%) of healthy plantlets (p≤0.01).
