Determination of races of bean anthracnose (Colletotrichum lindemuthianum (Sacc. Magnus) Lambs. Scrib.) disease: I. Characteristics of the differential lines and their utilities for race determination
Abstract :
Bean anthracnose, caused by the fungus Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, is a major disease of beans cultivated in a large area in the world. The disease that occurs wherever bean is grown causes significant yield losses on many of native and foreign bean cultivars. Many of races or pathotypes of the pathogen are present in the world and increasing with the emergence of new races because of the pathogenic evolution among the populations. To control the pathogen with the potential to spread to larger areas, the resistant sources against the disease should be identified, preserved and transferred into native bean cultivars. In a previous study preformed in 2007, the preliminary information is obtained for the inheritance of resistance to the pathogen. In this review prepared for researchers, the shapes of flower and pod of 12 differential bean lines used in determining the different races of pathogen were presented. Also, the detailed information was given about the phenotypic characteristics of differential lines and the detection and the numbering of races with the system of binary no.
