مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - Thoughts of the graduates from Ege University agricultural faculty on sufficiency of their education

Abstract :

Education is the most important component for keeping in step with developments, competition, productivity and human resources development in the world. In this study the sufficiency of education in agricultural faculty has been evaluated by their graduates who work at public extension services. Some personnel characteristics, extension activities, and actor relations have been investigated, too. Totally 758 graduates (69 from Ege University Agricultural Faculty (EUZF) and 689 from other 17 faculties) have participated in the study. Likert scale, percentages, mean, Kolmogorov Simirnov Test, T-Test, Mann Withney U Test, Factor and Cluster Analyses and Multi Dimensional Scaling Analysis have been employed for interpretation of the data in the study. The graduates of EUZF devote 47.9% of their working time to the farmer training. Acceptance rates of extension advices are low in EUZF graduates. The graduates have limited cooperation with both local and private actors. The classes are mostly given as theoretical manner. Sufficiency level of EUZF education is far from ideal situation. Considering the thoughts of different actors are extremely important during preparation and regular updating of course contents. Socio-economical courses must take more places on curriculum.
