مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - Thoughts and attitudes of farmers on the corporate organization in agricultural production: The case of Izmir province

Abstract :

Organizational problems in the agricultural sector are one of the topics that are discussed for years. On the one hand the debate continues on the other hand, seek of alternative organizational models. The incorporation is one of the alternative organization models in agriculture and the number of companies in agricultural production has increased rapidly in recent years. In this study, farmers’ thoughts and attitudes on the incorporation are investigated in Izmir province. ort his purpose, the data was collected by conducting survey to 60 farmers selected from Torbalı and Menemen districts. In the process of the analysis of the data, the farmers have been divided into three groups according to the width of the land. Besides, the socio-economic characteristics of them primarily investigated. Then, the farmers’ thoughts and attitudes on association and the incorporation are evaluated. In addition, the factors affecting farmers to establish agricultural production company and consider being a partner have been determined. According to the results of the survey, 85% of the farmers believe that alternative organization models are needed in agriculture. 76.67% of the farmers stated that they could run an agricultural production company and 63.33% of the farmers stated that they could be a partner to an agricultural production company by giving their land.
