Profitability and effeciency of olive oil Mills in Turkey: The case of Ege Region
Abstract :
In recent years, to increase production policies have monitored in many olive producing countries and as a result of this an increasing trend appeared in the world olive production.But,this increase,could not meet sufficiently expectations of some important members of sector such as olive pressing plants. In this study that examine to olive pressing plants in a larger frame ,first structural properties, production costs and profitability of olive pressing plants which located in the sector was established.Moreover, differently from previous studies technical efficiency levels of this plants was determined with various methods and input-output values of plants was showed intended for potentially improving. In this study, plants involved in only olive extraction activity running close to break-even point,in case purchase olive on its own behalf olive extraction plants have negative profits of business were determined.Technical efficiency analysis is showed that plants are not efficient technically and need to potential improvings.In study,some suggestions were made intended for improving of plants.In this context, concerning the measures of production and market which increasing capacities of olive pressing plants indirectly, the way of orienting government supports, pricing policies performed by managers of plant,problem of olive oil mill wastewater and education issues of attention.
