Title Of Article :
A research of a suitable method on mapping olive tree fields with high resolution satellite images
Abstract :
In this Project, template method which is an manuel technique (counting with hand) and OLICOUNT software, a semi-automatic counting modus are compared. With some research and observations, pozitive and negative features of both methods are observed. In the research, a pan-sharpened and bundle images of Quickbird is used which also includes 60 cm resolution and NIR wavelength. The chosen work area is wide area of spreader olives between Torbalı, Urla and Karaburun in Izmir. Hilly topographic formed lands also included in the study area so that the negative effects can be considered in the research. As a result, it become definite that manuel count method has a higher accuracy propotion compared to OLICOUNT software specially in areas where the hilly topografic formed lands make a greater shade effect and olive trees are mixed together with natural land cover in Agean region conditions. It is determined that OLICOUNT software shows a better performance of time, cost and labour in plain areas where olives are planted. Together with that, evaluating both methods in positive and negative ways, it had become definite that a new software is a necessity in olive count.
