Abstract :
Programmed cell death (PCD) is a physiological process important during development and elimination of damaged cells upon environmental stresses in living organism. It has been demonstrated that Bax inhibitor-1 (BI-1) is a cell death suppressor, and conserved in eukaryotes. In this study, a cDNA encoding BI- 1 from Vitis vinifera cv. Sultanina berries was isolated and submitted to the NCBI GenBank as VvBI-1. This gene contains an open reading frame of 747 bp The ORF of the gene encodes 248 aa with an estimated molecular mass of 27,290 kDa and isoelectric point of 8.62. The expression profile of the VvBI-1 was investigated by semi quantitative RT-PCR in different developmental stages of berries. The transcript of VvBI-1 was highly detected at all stages of development.
