Title Of Article :
Effects of various boom lengths on coverage rates and application success in spray application against Sunn pest (Eurygaster spp., Heteroptera: Scutelleridae) in Aegean Region
Abstract :
The main objective of this study was to examine the vertical movement of three different boom length of the field sprayer and to determine the changings on coverage rates according to the oscillations for pesticide application against Sun pest in wheat production. In order to meet these objectives three sprayers with 12, 15 and 18 m booms were tested, boom movements on various field surface conditions were comparatively examined and effects of these movements on coverage rates were determined. Experiments showed important oscillation problems especially on uneven field surfaces. Because of oscillation, nozzles located in the both ends of the boom provided worse uniformity and less coverage rates. In the experiments done with the 12 m boom length, oscillation time was shorter so, this boom was provided higher coverage rates than 15 and 18 m boom length. According to the results of first group of experiments, since 18 m boom length provided more oscillation problems, it was tested to determine biological efficacy against the Sun Pest. Biological efficacy values were measured as % 88, 94 and % 89, 81 for the first and second year studies respectively. Although these values are lower than the successful application values, 18 m length boom may assume as useful aspect to time efficiency and economy. Good prepared field surface is essential for increasing success of agricultural machines.
