Investigation of geothermal energy utilization for greenhouse heating in the province of Aydın
Abstract :
In this study, at first, the current situation of the potential for geothermal energy and greenhouse of the world and Turkey was determined. Later, former studies were evaluated regarding the use of geothermal energy and the utilization of geothermal energy for greenhouse heating of the province of Aydın. The lower limit of the geothermal greenhouse area in the legislation was assigned as 3 da for the Agriculture Based Specialized Industrial Zones and 5 da for the individual greenhouses. However, greenhouses have been encouraged to be as large as possible. In terms of geothermal fields, a large portion of the province of Aydın is convenient for greenhouse heating and geothermal energy is more economical than all other energies. In the present study, the proposed geothermal heated greenhouse size has been identified as a 25 da and would cost around £ 2 million. This size of greenhouse can repay its spendings within 2-4 years. In terms of the outside temperature, there are no obstacles for the establishment of geothermal greenhouse in the province of Aydın. In the greenhouses of Aydın, six months (November-April) heating is required for the grown plants, particularly in the case of tomato cultivation nine months (September-May) heating is required.
