Investigations on distribution and infestation rates of damaging pests, that found on tomato production areas in Izmir (Turkey) city
Abstract :
The purpose of the study was to determine important pests and infection rate of the important ones which are found on processing tomato production areas around İzmir(Turkey) in 2008-2009. For this purpose, the investigations were done with 15 days intervals in the Bergama and Kınık districts in processing tomato production areas, depending on the phenological stages of tomato. As a result of this study, 11 pests related to 9 families that belong to 6 orders and 12 pests related to 10 families that belong to 6 orders, in total, were determined in 2008 and 2009 respectively. In both two years, totally 12 pest species have been found. As the result, the harm of Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Thomas) (Hemiptera: Aphididae), Empoasca decipiens Paoli and Asymmetrasca decedens (Paoli) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), Tetranychus urticae Koch. (Acarina: Tetranychidae), Aculops lycopersici (Massee) (Acarina: Eriophyidae) on processing tomato were found important for the region. Thrips tabaci Lind. (Thysanoptera: Thripidae), Bemisia tabaci Genn. (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) and Helicoverpa armigera (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) have been taken were recorded as potential pest in Bergama and Kınık districts processing tomato production areas. Additionally in the study, it has been given place to species, that found unimportant on processing tomatoes.
