Title Of Article :
Effect of deficed irrigation and gel applications on the herbage yield and some yield characteristics of horse bean (Vicia faba var. minor L.)
Abstract :
This study was conducted to determine the effect of limited water and gel applications on the herbage yield and other yield parameters of horse bean (Vicia faba var. minor L.) under glasshouse conditions in Ege University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Field Crops in Bornova in 2010. Four different irrigation rates (field capacity (FC) FC-90 (90% of FC), FC-70 (70% of FC, FC-50 (50% of FC), FC-30 (30% of FC)) and six various gel doses (0-60-120-180-240-300 kg ha^-1) applications were tested in the pot experiment. Traits tested in the experiment were plant height, fresh herbage yield, dry matter content and yield. Results indicated that there was not any phytotoxic effect of gel on the growth and development of horse bean, and irrigation rates and gel applications affected significantly the fresh herbage and dry matter yields of horse bean. The highest fresh herbage yields were obtained by FC-70 and 60 kg ha^-1 gel treatment, the lowest yields were obtained by FC-30 and 300 kg ha^-1 silica gel treatment. Increased silica gel levels after 60 kg ha-1 decreased dry matter yields in FC-50 irrigation rate.
