The Pine Nut Processing Facilities, Problems and Recommendations in Bergama Kozak Plateau

In this research, technical economical properties and potential problems of Pine nut (Pinus pinea L.) processing facilities in Bergama Kozak Plateau, in December 2012, was investigated. A survey consist of 17 questions intended for technical (establishment year, legal status, established area, processing capacity, supply channels, number of employees, inventory of machines life, existing departments) and economic (certificates of quality management systems, organization chart, production planning, capacity utilization ratio, reason of last technological investment) properties together with determination of potential problems of 9 facilities was applied. Achieved results showed that facilities have problems with raw materials, skilled labor and product price. Decreases in tree yields (the problems caused by raw material) in recent years showed that the future of the facilities at risk. Since the development and modernization of the facilities strictly depends on incomes, the factors negatively affects the yields should be determined and necessary measures should be implemented. 31
