Evaluation of the Usage of Cover Material in Protected Cultivation in Manisa Region of Gediz Basin
Abstract :
In this study, it is aimed to determine and analyze the covering material use in the protected cultivation production structures in Manisa region of Gediz basin. It was determined that the roof shape is arc and semi-circle (80%), side walls are perpendicular (95%) throughout the structures. Generally, it was determined that multi additive and double additive polyethylene (PE) covering materials are used in greenhouse while single additive or additive free PE covering materials are used in high tunnels. Light transmittance of the materials used in structure was found between 30.9% and 76.6% due to the pollution and shading effect. Average thickness and density of new covering materials were varied between 0.12 and 0.18 mm, 0.9219 g/cm^3 and 0.9571 g/cm^3 respectively. The color of covering material with double additive was found to be less white and more close to red and blue. The minimum and maximum values of ultimate stress were found between 15.1 and 24.3 MPa, 23.6 and 27.6 MPa respectively while the values of elongation at break were found between 500% and 800%. The light transmittance values measured between 400 and 700 nm wave length when the increase of additives of covering material were fallen below 70%. It was determined positive correlation between type of covering material and construction, negative correlation between type of covering material and light transmittance, and negative correlation between shading effect and light transmittance. Additionally, the recommendations for the selection and use of covering material were presented.
