Investigations on the Number of Suction Points of Nezara viridula (L.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) on Tomato Fruits in Different Maturation Periods
Abstract :
n this research, the number of suction points of Nezara viridula (L.) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) at green-ripe and red-ripe stages of tomato fruit are determined in laboratory conditions. It was determined that the number of suction points occured as a result of N. viridula s nymph and adult stages feeding on one fruit during 24 hours long. Furthermore, the relation with the number of individual and the number of suction points in post-feeding period were investigated by determining the number of suction points on tomato fruits caused as a results of the differing number of individuals (3, 6, 9, and 12 member) nymph stages and adults of the feeding. At the results of these studies, the number of suction point occuring on fruits has increased from the begining of 3rd nymph period and reached to maximum level at the 5th nymph period by simultaneously increasing of individual number. The 5th stage nymphs caused the highest suction damage on tomato green-ripe period occured 48.00 suction points for 3 individuals,and the suction points for 6, 9 and 12 individuals are 132.50, 154.25and 267.50,respectively. Also, the 5th stage nymphs caused the highest suction damage on tomato red-ripe period occured 37.50 suction points for 3 individuals, and the suction points for 6, 9 and 12 individuals are 91.00, 105.75 and 132.50, respectively.
