The Effect of Different Type Soils on Fruit pH, Yield and Some Quality Properties in Processing Tomato Production
Abstract :
Objective: This study was conducted in order to determine the yield and some quality characteristics of Uno Rosso Fl tomato grown in different type soils (loam, clay-loam and sandy-loam) in izmir-Torbali district. Material ve Methods: The plant material of research consists of Uno Rosso Fl variety. The research was set up as a randomized complete design with three replicates. The changes in yield and fruit quality (fruit pH, Brix, total phenol, antioxidant activity and lycopene) parameters were evaluated during two harvests. Results: The highest plant yield (3.80 kg/plant), the highest total yield value (10.491 kg/da) and also the highest paste output yield value (1740 kg/da) were obtained from loam soil. The fruit of plants cultivated in loam soil had the lowest fruit pH value (4.11) and the highest Brix value (4.85) at time ofe first harvest. The highest total phenol (46.96 mg GAE/100 g) and lycopene content (101.58 mg/kg) antioxidant activity (2.92 µmol TE/g) were determined at second harvest in the clay-loam soil. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that different soil types can cause changes in pH and other quality characteristics of fruit. In addition, it was observed that the pH value, total phenol, antioxidant and lycopene content of fruits increased when the harvest delayed.
