    Determination of the Effects of Different Seed Treatments to Improve the Germination of Caper Seeds

  • Abstract
    Objective: The study was conducted to facilitate, homogenize the germination and evaluate the treatments to increase the germination rate of caper seeds (Capparis ovata Desf), of which plant is important with the ability to control the erosion and the usage possibilities of the flower buds, shoot buds and fruits. Material and Methods: Due to the purpose of the research, the seeds were treated in a Bubble- kolon; BK with PEG and KNO3 for different concentrations and periods. Besides GA3 application, mechanical abrasion and their combinations were also applied to the seeds. The results were obtained and compared after germination tests. Results: After all observations, the best germination rate for caper seeds were stated as the combination of priming(KNO3)+GA3+ mechanical abrasion (% 72.25). The study will be a reference for further researches. Conclusion: Findings obtained from the research revealed that applications to seeds have positive effects on germination rate of seeds. Our study we do will contribute to the widespread adoption of caper. It will also shed light on other studies that increase the germination of caper seeds of the results of the research.
