مرکز منطقه ای اطلاع رساني علوم و فناوري - The Research On Botanical Garden Feasibility in Muş Alparslan University Campus

Abstract :

Objective: In this study, feasibility of a botanical garden on the campus/complex of Mus Alparslan University was investigated and suggestions were brought to this end. In this sense, natural and cultural resources of Mus province were examined and it was determined that Mus province and the campus/complex area meet the criteria to set a botanical garden. Material and Methods: The main material of the study are constitute Mus Alparslan University campus located in Mus province. The maps presenting the natural structure of the research area were originally created by using the Geographic Information System via ArcGIS program, and it was decided that the botanical garden to be set in this area would be able to be on campus based on the obtained data. In addition, the results of the survey study conducted on university students were evaluated with SPSS program and the expectations regarding the botanical garden were determined. Results: The natural resources of the city and campus were examined; characteristics such as geographical situation, soil structure, water resources, land types, slope and elevation values, erosion status, vegetation cover and transportation were investigated and the findings were evaluated in terms of feasibility of botanical garden. In addition, the results of the questionnaire study applied to the students were transferred to the graphs using the SPSS program and the results were used in the planning of the botanical garden. Conclusion: Ultimately, a stain diagram was designed as a part of the landscape design process of the botanical garden to meet the needs of Muş province and the Eastern Anatolia based on the generated maps, the obtained data and the survey results.
