Abstract :
Going beyond the borders of academia, sociology has been utilized to solve the major problems in Dutch society. In a multi-ethnic and multi-religious country, like Netherlands, sociology has had no alternative but to focus on practical issues, such as religious toleration, racism, integration and etc. Besides, the social state that has been developing since the Second World War, increased the importance of state planning, which promoted the role of social sciences in policy-making. All these historical and social developments created an education of sociology that is in line with practical goals aimed to be pursued by the governments in the short run. Yet, focusing on short term practical goals has hindered theory fonnation in Dutch Sociology.
