  • Abstract
Economic sociology went through a major growth, both in the United States and in Europe, in recent years. Despite the global rise of economic sociology, especially within Western social sciences, one cannot notice a real concern about the subject in Turkey. This article aims to discuss the reasons why Turkish social scientists have largely ignored this field of study - at least until now. It will be argued that (I) in the absence of a critical tradition about classical economics of Turkish social sciences, the latter found itself intellectually disanned after the beginning of the roll-out moment of neoliberalization process when new economic sociology was vividly developed; (2) Turkish social sciences lack of interest concerning the main issues of economics gave birth to two different attitudes: one is retreat attitude, the other is reactive attitude. Finally it will be claimed that there is no difference between these two attitudes with respect to neglecting new economic sociology.
