System and/or Criticism: Mehmet Izzet’s Sociological Understanding

Abstract
In this paper, Mehmet Izzet’s profile as a sociologist, which support and criticize Gokalpian system, is described by his intellectual biography, by significant themes he investigated, and by his works. For this aim, firstly, we analyze dialectical relationship between dogmatism and criticism or as Mustafa Sekip called it, dialectic of part-idea and whole-idea in his research field. Secondly, Mehmet Izzet’s evaluation of relation between hero and society, and his thoughts about ethos of the nation are discussed. Finally, how a society Mehmet Izzet depicts in Yeni ictimaiyat dersleri (Lectures of new sociology) is identified by comparing Sadak’s Sociology. Hence we try to supply answers for the questions: Why the sociologist has been forgotten? Why his original standing has been faded?
