Title Of Article :
Magnetic resonance imaging findings in ovarian torsion
Abstract :
Ovarian torsion is an emergency that causes ischemia in ovaries due to twisting of ovarian pedicle and requires early diagnosis and treatment. Delay in the diagnosis of ovarian torsion causes loss of gonad and infertility.Color Doppler ultrasound (CDUS) is known as the first method which provides the best result in the diagnosis of ovarian torsion. However, this technique is operator and device-dependent, gives false negative results in partial or temporary torsion and has low sensitivity in pregnant women and obese population. Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) which measures the microscopic movements of water molecules, is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequence that does not require injection of contrast material. DWI has been shown to be successful in demonstrating the ischemia in ovarian torsion. Herein, we present four patients with ovarian torsion and we aimed to evaluate the MRI findings in the diagnosis of ovarian torsion.
